Awnings & deck covers

Awnings & Deck Covers

Covers for decks, entryways and kitchen doors, sized to the spot that gets wet and blended with the house.

A full roof is sometimes more than the spot needs

Not every wet doorway needs a patio cover. A kitchen door that opens onto a single step, a side door that takes the worst of the weather, an upper deck with a stair running down from it: these want a smaller roof, placed exactly where people stand to unlock a door or carry a tray outside. That is the work on this page, and for a lot of households it is where the first call starts.

The range is wider than one product. Satendra Jain had glass covers installed over a patio and an entry door, and a polycarbonate cover over the side door, all in one project. Same crew, same visit, different material for each spot depending on how much light the room behind it should keep.

Sized to the door, blended with the house

A good awning is wider than the opening under it, so the door can swing and the person holding it stays dry. The slope matters just as much: it has to send water off to the side instead of back toward the threshold, and it has to look like it belongs to the siding and trim around it. Action Installations plans each one to blend with the home rather than sit on it like an add-on.

Materials are the same professional-grade aluminum, polycarbonate and glass they use on full patio covers, plus insulated panels where a solid roof is the better answer. All of it is chosen to hold up to Northwest rain and snow. At the free on-site estimate they bring sample pieces, measure the door or deck, and talk through the options at your property. Most installs take one to two days.

After it goes up

Donald Petrich ended up with a deck and an insulated awning from the same crew and called the service professional, with expert craftsmanship. Another customer who had two awnings installed said the crew was quick and courteous and that they would hire them again for another. A third wrote that the installer, Jay, was thorough and professional on a kitchen-door awning.

Every install carries a lifetime guarantee, and the materials are backed by lifetime warranties. Travis Teal's family-owned company has worked around the Puget Sound since 1992, and it offers discounts to seniors, military members and first responders.

Son Hui Gonzalez, on a kitchen-door awning: "The materials look sturdy and look nice. The installer (Jay) was thorough and professional." S E, who had two awnings installed: "Quick and courteous." Donald Petrich, on Google: "a beautiful deck and insulated awning."

Which cover goes with which spot

A kitchen or side door
An awning or a small polycarbonate cover keeps the step dry and leaves the rest of the wall alone.
An upper deck
A deck cover shelters the doorway and the table together, sized to the framing under it.
The whole patio
That is a job for glass or the polycarbonate, aluminum and insulated covers.

Fabric awnings for windows, entrances and shopfronts are on the canvas awnings page, and the family behind the crew is introduced on the about page.
